English breakfast by the lakeside and a beaufitul park on a sunny sunday morning. That was on our mind as we went to Hauz Khas Village. Quite a few eateries offer breakfast/ brunch menus and generally open by 10:30 - 11:00. We zeroed in on Smoke House Deli for our meal. I had reached a couple of hours early and went for a photography session in the neighbouring deer park and lake. The two hour sojourn included running after peacocks and deer and certainly helped build up an appetite.
We were one of the first ones to enter the restaurant at around 11:00 AM and were lucky enough to get a table with a view of the lake. All of us went with a choice of an omelette served with toast and potato, and a plate of sausages. The eggs were nicely done and the complementary breads ( in addition to the toast) were fresh and strengthened our appetite. Sausages, well, for a non-veg lover, a plate of chicken sausages should do the trick. I had ordered pork sausages, a plateful of which may seem a bit too much.
The meal course was filling and delightful. We ordered coffee and juices after the meal. The resto serves several varieties of coffee and you can sip on your cuppa, look at the serenity of the lake and enjoy a lazy sunday breakfast.
Prices were a bit high, but given the peace and tranquility the place offers, I would say it was worth it. A good breakfast for two would probably cost somewhere in the range of 1500-1800, but it is definitely worth a try.
